Alissa was born with fibular hemimelia, a rare condition that left her without a fibula in her left leg. She began receiving care through Shriners Children’s at 9 months old, where doctors laid out a long-term plan to treat her condition and help her thrive for years to come. Alissa has since undergone five surgeries and has worn a prosthesis her entire life.
Today, Alissa is a junior at Desert Oasis High School and a standout athlete, starring as a pitcher and top hitter on her softball team while also playing varsity volleyball. She has ambitions to compete in Paralympic events in shot put, discus, and javelin, and plans to continue playing softball in college. Alissa credits her care team and her family’s support for giving her the confidence to prove that her prosthetic “doesn’t hold me back in any way.”
This October, we’re partnering with Fanatics to support athletes without limitation like Alissa. Visit http://fanatics.93n6tx.net/Shriners between October 5 – 19, use promo code SHRINERS20 at check out, and receive 20% off your order while donating back to Shriners Children’s.
In addition to their promotion, Fanatics also surprised some Shriners Children’s patients with gear from their favorite teams!
Thank you, Fanatics!
